Data on foF2 observations at North American and Asian longitudes as well as incoherent scattering data on plasma drift velocity are examined. Mechanisms for the occurrence of morning and evening peaks in the diurnal trend of foF2 near the geomagnetic equator are investigated. Seasonal variations of the diurnal trend are examined, and the effects of solar activity are discussed.
