The Monte Carlo method was used to perform a numerical calculation of the lifetimes of electrons with energies of 50-500 MeV at L = 2 for specular-point heights below 200 km. Ionization losses, multiple scattering, and inelastic scattering by atomic electrons were taken into account. It is shown that the lifetime value calculated when atmospheric scattering is taken into account is an order of magnitude less than that when such scattering is not taken into account. The displacement of the particle guiding center from the original line of force owing to energy losses and scattering reduces the lifetime by not more than 20 percent.
