The impact of veiling glare on HIPPARCOS Input Catalog and data reduction is discussed. The expected number of veiling glare stars as a function of the magnitude of the program star for a unique field of view and for the combined fields is investigated. An algorithm to process observations perturbed with veiling glare, which allows the five parameters of the program star to be obtained is outlined. The structure of the algorithm leads to an estimation of the phase extraction allowing for the signal of the perturbing star and the uncertainty of its actual position on the IFOV. The results are plotted as contour lines in a (Delta m,r) diagram giving the degradation of the phase determination with respect to the theoretical accuracy which could be obtained were the star unaffected by veiling glare.
