It is known that the plasmasphere responds to the storm time electric fields driven by the solar wind forcing, and that it results in the depletion of the plasma density. It is generally followed by the refilling process, which replenishes the depleted flux tubes from the ionosphere in the recovery phase of a storm. The response time scales of the plasmasphere tend to be shorter during the main phase of storms as compared to those during the recovery phase. How long are the time scales of the plasmaspheric response to solar wind forcing through the disturbance in the electric field, and how does it depend on various phases of storms? In order to address these questions, we investigate the correlation between the solar wind forcing and the plasmaspheric electric field by using the Coupled Thermosphere-Ionosphere-Plasmasphere-Electrodynamics (CTIPe) model combined with the Rice Convection Model (RCM) electric field. Furthermore, the subsequent response of the plasmaspheric dynamics is addressed by a modified Sheffield University Plasmasphere Ionosphere Model (SUPIM), in order to understand the difference in the time scales of the depletion and refilling processes.
