Dynamics in the saturnian magnetosphere are discussed in terms of a systematic coupling between interchange in dipolar field regions and ballooning in the outer magnetosphere. The dominant dynamical process governing the magnetosphere is proposed to be the transport of material from the inner magnetosphere outwards coupled with acceleration during the process derived from the planetary rotation. The implications of the planetary rotation dependence detected first by Espinosa et al. J. Geophys. Res., 108 A2 10.1029/2001JA005083, 2003 and which are further seen in the Cassini spacecraft data are discussed in the light of the global model presented.
