In connection with the observations of Cassini in its encounter with Enceladus, we are studying the thermal and radiation stability of ammonia-water mixtures in the laboratory. We use microbalance, mass-spectrometry, and infrared-spectroscopy to follow the evolution of the ices, and measure the sputtering and the sublimation rates. The results will be related to the spacecraft data that is currently being processed.
