Recent observational and theoretical developments in the study of extragalactic radio sources are reviewed. Over 70 radio sources possess jets (narrow features that appear to link the main radio emitting regions with the nuclei of the associated galaxies or quasars). It is argued that these jets are conduits along which flow mass, momentum, energy and magnetic flux. Particular attention is paid to symmetric sources, magnetic collimation and instabilities. These observations are interpreted with a unified theory of active extragalactic objects.
