An extended study has been made of the satellite and ground-based cosmic-ray data for the nearly scatter-free solar particle event on May 7, 1978. From the Helios A and IMP 7 cosmic-ray telescope data, the coronal propagation is characterized by a diffusion coefficient of 2-3 x 10 to the 16th sq cm/s from 38 MeV (270 MV) to 400 MeV (954 MV). The loss rate of particles in the solar corona decreased from 2.4 per hr at 4.15 GeV (5 GV) to 0.1 per hr at 100 MeV (445 MV).
