We developed a new method to calculate the electrostatic screening of reacting ions from first principles. We present results indicating that the reactions between light protons and heavy nuclei (like CNO) are supressed while the reactions between protons and themselves are enhanced (as assumed before). We show the derivation and discuss application to thermonuclear runaways.
