In this work it is shown that spherical and stable gravitationally-bound configurations of scalar fields are late time attractors for axisymmetric initial configurations which evolve towards those attractors via scalar field emission. These results are relevant in astrophysical scenarios because such scalar field configurations have been related to dark matter galactic halos and Newtonian boson stars.
