In this paper, we study the tritium $\beta-$decay in the field theory of the
superluminal (faster-than-light) neutrino. We show how the unstable transient
modes with $\vec{q} \cdot \vec{q} < m_{\nu}^2$ lead to an excess of events at
the endpoint.
