We present a qualitative analysis of the gross features of baryon
spectroscopy (masses and form factors) in terms of various exactly solvable
models. It is shown that a collective model, in which baryon resonances are
interpreted as rotations and vibrations of an oblate symmetric top, provides a
good starting point for a more detailed quantitative study.
