The working notes which led to the physics demonstration ultracold neutron
source that has been operated at Los Alamos are transcribed here. In addition
to the transcribed notes, included are a Prologue that describes the path that
led to be basic idea, and an Epilogue that describes some of the discoveries in
the implementation of the idea.
