A general analysis of polarization observables for the $d(\gamma,\pi)NN$
reaction with polarized photons and/or oriented deuterons is presented. The
unpolarized differential cross section, linear photon asymmetry, vector and
tensor target asymmetries are predicted for forthcoming experiments.
