It is pointed out that the structure of rotational discontinuites (RDs) is a major issue in understanding the characteristics of RDs in the solar wind and at the magnetopause. One model predicts that the magnetopause is an RD during reconnection events. In the present work, the structure of RDs is examined on the basis of hybrid simulations for a range of propagation angles theta(bn) between the discontinuity normal and the upstream magnetic field and plasma beta. For sufficiently narrow initial states, the simulations produce quasi-steady 'reverse rotation' magnetic field structures for theta(bn) in the 30-60 deg range and for beta greater than zero and not greater than 1 on a time scale of about 200/Omega(i).
