An approximate formula is derived for the relation between point-discharge current i, potential difference V and wind-speed W, for an earthed point in air. The relation i = 2[pi][epsilon]VW is obtained; this may be extended to , where [epsilon] is the permittivity of air and w the mobility of the ions concerned. Comparison is made with observational results, showing quite reasonable agreement for the 2[pi][epsilon] term but less good for the w2 term.
