The results of CCMC global MHD simulations are analyzed for 2 geomagnetic storms during which substorms are known to occur. Simulation results were used to generate predicted AL as well as readings for select ground magnetometers. The predictions are compared with the ground measurements. Empirical models of AL and predicted AL as a function of Omniweb solar wind parameters are obtained and compared in order to determine which timescales are adequately modeled.
