The magnetic field perturbations measured in the vicinity of the Galilean moons Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto can be interpreted as combined signals of the satellites' interaction with their ambient plasma and induced fields originating from interior conductive layers. By disentangling these two contributions it is possible to extract information both about the satellites' interiors and their atmosphere/ionosphere as well as their plasma environment. The main tools for investigating these interaction processes are 3D MHD models describing the flow of the magnetospheric plasma around an obstacle with a neutral atmosphere and a conductive ionosphere. We present an overview of the current knowledge about plasma interaction processes in the Jovian system. We further present a recent study which assesses the possibility to sound the satellites' interiors using induced fields. The measured induced fields depend on the amplitude and frequency of the time varying inducing field as well as on the thickness and conductivity of the subsurface layers. We use models for the Jovian magnetospheric field, an analytical model for the electromagnetic induction for a multi-layered sphere and interior models from the literature to predict the strength of the induced fields at the satellites' surfaces. This study lead to predictions for the detectability of the subsurface ocean and core layers inside the Galilean moons.
