Numerical analysis of quasi-linear relaxation is provided for four models of electron beams traveling a finite length through plasma. One model adopts an atmosphere model of the corona and takes into account an increase in the cross section of the electron beam. The electron velocity distribution generally assumes a quasi-plateau form in limited velocity and time ranges. The effects of collisional decay of fast electrons and collisional damping of plasma waves are considered. An approximate formula for the velocity distribution of the solar electrons passing through the corona was derived analytically with attention to the interaction of electrons with plasma waves and also to the collisional damping of the plasma waves and collisions with thermal particles. This formula permits computation of the time profile of the plasma waves caused by these solar electrons at any given place in interplanetary space.
