We study the force balance surrounding the arrival of sharp dipolarization fronts within bursty flows near substorm onsets. We compare the curvature and pressure gradient force before and after the events using three inner THEMIS probes separated along the Xgsm and the Zgsm directions. Estimates of the curvature are obtained by modeling of field lines using the Z-separation of the probes and the self-similar stucture of the front over short distances. While the pressure and the pressure gradient forces increase, the curvature force increases even further behind the dipolarization front, due to the increase in the magnetic field magnitude. The plasma acceleration ahead and during the bursty flow event can thus be explained as a result of the force imbalance resulting from the increased curvature force behind the front.
