Various papers on advanced laser concepts and applications are presented. Individual topics addressed include: FELs as light sources for basic research, applications of high-Tc superconductors in optoelectronics, diode-pumped high-power solid-state lasers, Nd-glass microspherical cavity laser induced by cavity QED effects, Air Force program in coherent semiconductor lasers, tunable cyclotron-resonance laser in germanium, multiphoton excited emission in zinc selenide and other crystals, detection of infrared FEL radiation, GaAs/GaAlAs superlattice avalanche photodiode at wavelength 0.8 micron, mathematical simulation of composite optical systems loaded with active medium. Also discussed are: subminiature package external cavity laser, theory for solar-powered cavityless waveguide laser, short-pulsed H2-F2 amplifier initiated by optical discharge, compact FEFL devices, properties of diamonds with varying isotopic compositions, applications of the FEL to NLO spectroscopy of semiconductors, advanced technology developed for high-fluence laser applications, FIR lasers as local oscillators in submillimeter astronomy.
