It is shown, on the basis of data obtained with the EISCAT incoherent scattering station and the nonstationary model of the auroral E-region of the ionosphere, which makes it possible to calculate the electron and ion density profiles and the changes occurring in these profiles during disturbances, that the model reproduces the experimentally observed changes in the altitude of the maximum of the layer and the change in the electron density and shape of the electron density profile in the layer. The basic characteristics of the change occurring in the electron density profiles during auroral disturbances are examined.
