One year of routine meteorological registrations of relative humidity and temperature have been used to calculate absolute humidity as one of the main parameters contributing to atmospheric IR-transmission. Statistics on absolute humidity for a meteorological station in southern Germany are presented. Special synoptic situations are discussed. Surprisingly high humidity jumps of 3-5 g/cu m per 30 min in winter and 9-14 g/cu m per 30 min in summer are obtained. The influence of extreme jumps on atmospheric transmission of CO2-laser radiation (10.6 microns) is estimated.
