The salient properties of magnetars are summarized here with an emphasis on recent developments in the field since 2005. In particular, I discuss observations of the giant flares, bursts from Anomalous X-ray Pulsars (AXPs), transient emission from AXPs, multi-wavelength observations of magnetars, glitch activity in AXPs, magnetar energy spectra, and birth rate estimates of magnetars. In each instance, I discuss what insight these new results have provided toward improving our understanding of magnetars and their place within the diverse population of neutron stars.
