The analysis of the amplitude variations of the semidiurnal tide for series of wind data collected in the lower thermosphere throughout more than ten years (1979-1990) at the CNR radar station near Bologna (I), reveals the presence of periodicities with time scales quite similar to those of planetary waves, as deduced from the correspondent wind velocity spectra mainly in the 2-10 day band at 90-100 km. Possible non-linear coupling processes between tidal and planetary waves would account for the presence of subsidiary peaks close to the semidiurnal period mainly in the 10-16h band.
