The Hard X-ray Imagers (HXI) of the MIRAX satellite mission are two coded-mask cameras whose main objective is to obtain deep images and spectra (10 to 200 keV) of the central Galactic Plane source population. In this work, we present the results of Monte Carlo simulations of the instrumental background in orbit and the imaging capabilities of the HXIs. These simulations were carried out using the GEANT-based MGGPOD suite of routines for the study of interaction of high-energy particles and photons with the materials of the detector system and its surroundings.
