The capacity of the Julius (1906) method to determine the sun's limb intensity drop is disputed, and an attempt is made to show that the brief intensity reversal near the extreme limb, as derived from flash spectra cinematography, can be explained by diffraction. It is suggested that direct observations of the intensity drop near the extreme limb, obtained from space, will settle this question.
