The hypothesis that galactic cosmic rays are produced in cosmic plasma
pinches leads to an accelerated-particle spectrum dN/dE ≡
E-ν with an index ν = 1+(3)1/2, which is
approximately equal to the observed value ν0 = 2.7. The
hypothesis therefore looks extremely plausible.
