The novel auroral electron-production mechanism presented involves the generation of charge separation, along the mirror field in which the parallel electric field accelerates electrons, by means of field-aligned plasma jets. An analysis of this process is given which shows that the potential difference can be expressed by an equation encompassing ion parallel flow energy, the mirror ratio, and the ratio of electron to ion temperatures.
