The 10.7 cm solar flux index is analyzed. The solar radiation in the X and UV range, is forecasted and evaluated. The effects on the terrestrial atmosphere are predicted. The origin of the centimeter emission is reviewed. The operational, short term prediction method (a few days in advance) is evaluated. Long term predictions for the next solar cycle maximum (in 1990) are given. The results lead to the conclusion that the present cycle is one of the strongest solar activity cycles.
