The classification of the field aligned current-voltage relationship is effectuated. It is peformed in three parts: the field aligned current without field aligned acceleration; the Ohms law for the current voltage relationship; and the saturation current. It is observed that the linear relationship between the field aligned current and potential drop appears, when the field aligned potential drop is smaller than the critical field aligned potential drop V sub C. Moreover, when the field aligned potential drop is stronger than V sub C a saturation current is flowing. An example from Viking observations of the Ohms law for the current voltage relationship and an example for a saturation current are shown.
