Ca, Sr and Ba have been determined spectrochemically in alkali feldspars from gneisses, augengneisses, anatexe granites, diapire granites and small and large pegmatites from the pre-Cambrian basement rocks of southern Norway. Ca decreases in feldspars from large pegmatites, but not to the same extent as Sr and Ba. It is shown that Sr readily substitutes in K-feldspar. A close association of Ba and Sr was found. With increasing fractionation the Ba/Sr ratio decreases and is lowest in the large pegmatites, as are the absolute amounts of Sr and Ba. The behaviour of Ca, Sr and Ba is explained mainly by the relative bond strengths; Ba which forms the bond with most ionic character is preferentially accepted.
