While accuracy of the order of 100 m is claimed in three-dimensional coordinate estimation of lunar feature positions, it has never been made clear whether the quoted distance of a crater from the center of the moon refers to the distance of its rim, its bottom, or of the level of the land surrounding the crater. Since the determination of crater location is of use primarily for selenodetic studies, a choice most helpful to photogrammetric studies is indicated. It is suggested that selenographic positions of circular lunar craters used as reference points should be defined by the position of the center as determined from a best fit to the crater's rim. An inadequate amount of photographic information precludes determining the location of the center of the crater floor in many cases.
