A suggestion that low energy galactic radiation is responsible for the unusual temperature patterns of Jupiter and Saturn is presented. These planets radiate twice the energy received from the sun. Theories which account for the excess heat as a result of meteor bombardment, internal radioactivity, or gravitational contraction are criticized. Magnetic activity, maximal at the polar regions and minimal at the equator, might explain the anomalous, nearly uniform temperature from central region to limb, according to an analysis of the corpuscular radiation flux patterns in the magnetospheres of Jupiter and Io. Since the sun does not produce sufficient corpuscular radiation to account for the observations, the explanation is offered that stellar corpuscular radiation is channeled in the same way as higher energy cosmic rays by the Jovian magnetic field.
