Types of stochastic instability of charged particles in a geomagnetic trap are examined, and the boundaries and domains of the existence of the instabilities are defined. The nature of the nonadiabatic behavior of the particles is considered; spectral features of high-energy trapped particles are predicted; and the stochastic instability of protons with energies exceeding 100 MeV in the inner radiation belt is examined. It is noted that the loss mechanism connected with the stochastic motion of charged particles plays an important role in the total loss balance.
