A strict asymptotic formula is obtained for determining the equivalent width of a weak absorption line formed in the homogeneous optically thick cloudy atmosphere above a Lambert surface. The formula is used to interpret variations in the equivalent widths of 782.0, 778.3, and 868.9 nm lines in the CO2 absorption bands of the Venusian atmosphere. It is shown that these variations have periods of about 4 days. Also, the global asymmetry of the cloud layer revolving around Venus is explained.
