The contribution to stellar energy loss is considered that would result if finite-range baryonic and.or leptonic forces exist. By requiring that these new interactions do not upset standard models on stellar evolution dynamics upper limits are placed on their strengths. In particular, αE<4×10-26 is found from solar data and αE<4×10-28 from data on red giants for the fine structure constant αE of a force coupled to the electronic number.
