The physical properties of MHD shocks associated with relativistic magnetized jets are discussed using a one-fluid approximation. The influence of the energy and pressure of the relativistic suprathermal component on the shock structure is neglected. The characteristic speeds found in relativistic plasmas are reviewed, and the shock relations are derived from relativistic MHD. All the postshock physical quantities are expressed in terms of the compression ratio. Numerical solutions of the postshock quantities are presented for perpendicular shocks and for the realistic parameter set found in extragalactic jets. Some applications of these results to hot spots in extragalactic radio sources are examined.
