A region of space-time is often called totally vicious if a closed timelike curve passes through each point. We show that the interior of any physically realistic black hole cannot be totally vicious. This result imposes some constraints on possible models of the interior of rotating black holes; it also supports the validity of the third law of black hole mechanics.
