Daily full disk magnetograms observed with the Kitt Peak 40-channel magnetograph have been examined for the rise time, decay time and lifetime of sunspot moats. Eighteen well-defined moats result in rise and decay times of 0.5 + or - 1 d, with a lifetime at maximum development of 6 + or - 3 d. The moat appears approximately three days after the spot is observed in the data.
