Radiation Detectors, Neutrino Mass And Mixing

Scientific paper

The KamLAND neutrino experiment, located in the Kamioka Underground Observatory in Japan, is taking data. In this paper we first review the motivation for the experiment and describe the experimental setup. The main part of the paper is devoted to presentation and discussion of the first measurement by the experiment of ve's from nuclear power plants. A deficit in the number of events is observed. Interpreted in terms of neutrino oscillations, only the MSW LMA solution to the solar neutrino problem is consistent with the KamLAND measurement and CPT invariance.
