The principles and operating characteristics of several tunable infrared lasers are discussed. These tunable sources include high-pressure molecular gas lasers, nonlinear frequency converters, Raman frequency converters, and solid-state tunable lasers. The sources are compared in terms of their useful linewidth, output power, efficiency and wavelength coverage.
