The paper examines the jitter model of Stark (1977) in order to give a better account of the spectral properties of a nonoverlapping grain structure (NOGS). A more general interpretation of the spectral properties of a two-dimensional grain distribution corresponding to a jitter model is presented. Attention is given to calculating the properties of a one-dimensional model in which the NOGS is constructed from a random Poisson process; in this model, the cells are replaced by identical rectangular pulses. This approach permits deeper insight into the interpretation of jitter model spectral properties, as confirmed by experimental results.
