The method of radio wave refractive scattering is used to solve the problem of the spatial correlation of the scintillations of an extended source in a randomly inhomogeneous medium. General expressions are obtained for the spatial correlation index and radius of the radiation intensity fluctuations of a source of finite angular dimensions during propagation through a multilayer medium with refractivity fluctuations. The suitability of the radio wave refractive scattering approach for the diffractive calculation of the spatial correlation of the scintillations of an extended source in a thick layer with inhomogeneities is demonstrated.
