An account is given of a search for Antarctic meteorites carried out by the wintering party of the 22nd Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition in the Meteorite Ice Field in the vicinity of the Yamato Mountains in December 1981. The search in the hexagonal experiment area showed that due to ablation of the ice meteorites emerged from the ice sheet at a rate of one meteorite per year for every 2 square kilometers over 2 years. One hundred thirty three specimens were collected weighing a total of 25.928 kg; they include ordinary chondrites, carbonaceous chondrites and diogenites. The distribution of occurrence sites suggests - as has been pointed out previously - that a bare ice field near small nunataks is the area where the meteorites are concentrated.
