The technical problems involved in implementing the inflationary
scenario have prompted us to search for different solutions to the
horizon and flatness problems. We find that Brans-Dicke cosmology can,
under certain circumstances, solve the horizon problem, albeit at the
expense of some fine tuning of parameters.
