I REPORT in this letter broadband observaions at 10 µm and 20 µm of the nucleus of Comet Kohoutek. These measurements were taken about 1 week before perihelion, while the comet was about 0.35 AU from the Sun. Table 1 summarises the results, which show that the comet was an intense infrared object, magnitude about -5, and that the nuclear material responsible for the infrared emission heated up rapidly as the comet sped toward the Sun.
