The paper describes a method for selecting an optimal program of trajectory measurement which would assure minimal error in determining an assigned trajectory parameter. The processing of measurements is carried out by the least squares method while the structure of the covariance matrix is assumed to be known. The method is applied to the determination of the orbit of an artificial Mars satellite.
