Utilizing a geometric interpretation of gravitation within the framework of Einstein's general relativity, it is found that only expanding, spatially isotropic universes are allowed. The law of gravitation is taken in the form R 44=0 where R 44 is the component of the contracted Riemann-Christoffel (Ricci) tensor representing the curvature of time. All that is required in addition to R 44=0 is that the Gaussian curvature Rbe nowhere infinite.
