The experiment described was carried out at the Aragats station (3260 meters above sea level), using an ionization calorimeter with 3 lead and 16 iron filters, a multilayer proportional counter (24 horizontal layers) with an area of 1 sq m, and five Geiger counter layers. The amount of pions in the nuclear-active particle flux was determined, along with the inelasticity coefficient of hadrons in iron and in lead. Single-peak cascades in the iron absorber were analyzed for events with energies ranging from 150 to 500 GeV. The contribution of muons to the generation of such cascades was found to be negligibly small.
